In Oost-Afrika wemelt het van safariparken waar je in ware National Geographic stijl beesten kan gaan bekijken in het wild. Voor menig toerist is dit de enige reden waarom ze überhaupt in Afrika terechtgekomen zijn. Monkey see, monkey do. Wij dus ook op stap.

We kregen al een hoop namen tijdens deze reis: “mon ami” in Marokko. “toubab” in Senegal en Gambia, “branko” in Guinée-Bissau, “blanc” in Guinée en Ivoorkust en “abrunie” in Ghana. Als het van ons afhangt is onze huidskleur irrelevant. Maar het hangt niet van ons af. In Oeganda (en Rwanda ook in mindere mate) worden we al snel omgedoopt tot “mzungu”.
